What Is AMD Neural Lighting?
According to hardware leaker Kepler_L2, AMD is working on a next-generation rendering feature that would use neural networks to replace some workloads traditionally handled by shaders. The idea sounds similar to the Neural Rendering direction NVIDIA introduced with DLSS 5, where AI can influence more than resolution reconstruction alone.
AMD has not officially announced a product called Neural Lighting. That means its final name, hardware requirements and game support remain unknown. The same leak suggests the workload may be demanding enough to require future Radeon hardware rather than current-generation GPUs.
AMD Is Already Moving Toward Neural Rendering
A Neural Lighting feature would build on work AMD has already released rather than starting from scratch. FSR “Redstone” includes several machine-learning technologies such as FSR Upscaling, Frame Generation, Ray Regeneration and Radiance Caching.
Radiance Caching is particularly relevant because it uses machine learning to predict how light moves through a scene. Ray Regeneration takes noisy ray-traced information and reconstructs a cleaner final image.
